New residents must apply within 60 days for a N.C. driver's license; borrow a booklet to prepare for the examination or visit http://www.ncdot.org/dmv/.

Motor Vehicle Registration and License Plate Agency

Hours: Mon.-Fri. 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Payments by cash or by check with two forms of ID; not credit cards.

Motor vehicles must be registered and licensed within 30 days of purchase or of moving to N.C. Application for license plate requires certificate of title and the name and policy number of auto liability insurance (company must be recognized in N.C.). Within 10 days after registration the vehicle must be inspected at an authorized service station.
