Durham County Solid Waste Collections

Durham City, Department of Solid Waste Management

Director Donald Long

Having a problem with your solid waste service or do you have a question? Contact Durham One Call at 560-1200.

Residential garbage
Within city limits is collected at curbside once a week from roll-out green containers, which are provided to customers at no cost. Citizens who are physically unable to move a roll-out cart to the curb may have their refuse collected from a designated area by City roll-out cart collection crews. Roll-out cart collections crews also monitor refuse for recyclables that are banned at the City solid waste disposal facilities.

Yard waste includes leaves, grass and shrub clippings, garden residue, twigs, branches, and small limbs. The City's curbside collection of yard waste is a fee based program. Yard Waste Collection is designed to redirect debris from the waste stream by recycling it to a re-usable earth product.

Bulky items, such as large household appliances and furniture can be picked up by a boom truck for a $20 fee. Call 560-4186 for information on disposing of household hazardous wastes.
