Telephone: 663-2601, Hours: M-F, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
New residents must apply within 60 days for a N.C. driver's license. Booklets are available on loan to prepare for the examination, in English and Spanish. Testing is also available in Chinese, Japanese and Korean.
Motor Vehicle Registration and License Plate Agency

Hours: M-F, 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.
Payments by cash or by check with two forms of ID; no credit cards. Motor vehicles must be registered and licensed within 30 days of purchase or of establishing permanent residency.
Application for license plate requires certificate of title (from seller or from state of previous residence) and the company name and policy number of automobile liability insurance (company must be recognized in N.C.)
Within 10 days after registration the vehicle must be inspected at an authorized service station.
